Assignment Hollywood

The Worldchangers team targeted Hollywood as one of the most influential centres for media in the world. The Hollywood sign is an icon known throughout the world for its place in the film and tv industry. It represents the glory, the gold, the glitz and the glamour of media. One of our team felt the Lord said to him in a dream that it was the music and movies, money and manipulation. We have seen the manipulation totally exposed over the last couple of years.

We based ourselves in Studio City near Universal Studios. Our tasks were to pray at the studio gates, the Hollywood sign and the walk of fame on Hollywood Boulevard. We began with repentance, applying prayer like an axe to the roots of deception and manipulation that mark the industry.

Hollywood was initially founded by film moguls who were violating Thomas Edison’s patent on the movie camera and projector. Edison invented these machines, formed his own studio in New Jersey and prosecuted those who violated his patent rights. To avoid this the independent film producers moved to Hollywood. Although Edison is painted as somewhat of a control freak, they still birthed the industry in Hollywood through deception and rebellion against laws that existed at that time. The monopoly Edison and his organization, Motion Picture Patent Company, held from 1909 to 1917 determined who could and could not make or show films. On the one hand you have the issue of lawlessness in California and on the other you have control, manipulation and greed in the East. Both of these have manifest fruit in the media industry out of Hollywood.

We prayed in repentance, identifying with those involved, and seeking the forgiveness and mercy of the Lord. We renamed the city ‘Holywood’ and made prophetic declarations of blessing, truth and hope over the city and the industry. We proclaimed Jeremiah 33:6-9 over the city for hope and a righteous, blessed future.

“Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to Hollywood; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and security. I will bring Holywood and the United States back from captivity and will rebuild them as they were before. I will cleanse them from all the sin they have committed against me and will forgive all their sins of rebellion against me. Then this city will bring me renown, joy, praise and honor before all nations on earth that hear of all the good things I do for it; and they will be in awe and will tremble at the abundant prosperity and peace I provide for it.” Jeremiah 33:6-9 NIV (Holywood and the United States are my substitutions)
